The Legend of Zelda is an American animated series based on the Japanese video game series The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo. The plot follows the adventures of Link and Princess Zelda as they defend the kingdom of Hyrule from an evil wizard named Ganon. It is heavily based on the first game of the Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda, but includes some references to the second, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The show was produced by DIC Entertainment and distributed by Viacom Enterprises in association with Nintendo of America, Inc. It comprises thirteen episodes which first aired in North America from September 8, 1989, to December 1, 1989.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, also simply known as Super Mario and Super Mario Brothers, is the first cartoon of DIC Entertainment's Super Mario trilogy, aired between September and December of 1989; it was the only one to be produced directly for syndication. The show featured live-action segments in which Mario and Luigi (played by Lou Albano and Danny Wells respectively), living in their basement workshop in Brooklyn, were often visited by various celebrity guest stars. It also featured cartoons based on the first and second Super Mario Bros. games, where the Mario brothers teamed up with Princess Toadstool and Toad against King Koopa and his forces to save the many lands of the world. The Super Mario Bros. cartoons were shown on Mondays through Thursdays only; on Fridays, the show would air cartoons based on the animated The Legend of Zelda series. In 1990, the show was retooled and aired under the name Club Mario, combining the animated segments with new live-action segments depicting the antics of two Super Mario-loving slackers named Tommy Treehugger and Co-MC. The child approaches the screen, where he sees his reflection. Thanks to the magic brush, the reflection turns into Mickey Mouse. The baby and the mouse begin to dance. Meanwhile, at the top of the screen are numbers showing the number of years Mickey Mouse has existed. The child has been growing all this time: becoming a teenager, then a young man, then an adult. The numbers reach 60. Mickey Mouse has not changed, he is still cheerful and wants to dance.
Feet of Song explores the African rhythms of the talking drum and the guitar. The animated stylised figures move beautifully in time with the music, leaping and stamping to the musical score. The bursts of abstraction within the film are often just a few gliding brush strokes cleverly depicting the human form in movement. With the use of airbrush and watercolour, one can see black shapes move against the orange, ochre and stripes of primary colour and a host of multiplying dance forms. Erica Russell researched extensively for her film in dance, music, African masks, sculpture and body painting.
